Concert Time

Here we are in the Forbidden City Concert Hall after the International Festival Chorus concert of the “Bach Mass in B Minor” recently. Dad said that the music was fairly challenging and lengthy (the score was over 200 pages), but as I listened to the concert, I thought it was quite lovely. The soloists were brought in from London and all were quite good, especially the soprano, Dame Emma Kirkby. The alto soloist was male, which is fairly unusual and took a little getting used to. All in all, dressing up for the gala evening and listening to great music in this unique venue was another China experience.

Well, that’s a word from our vocabulary, so we understand it completely. We’ll take it. Thank you! It has a positive connotation for us, obviously.

Wow! A post! :) I’m giving you a hard time since you gave us a hard time ;p We’ll definately post. I think we’re a little overwhelmed with things to post about. Also our fingers are too frozen to post. JK We’re fine don’t get on Dad again. That was funny. That’s a really cool organ! It reminds me of the Conference Center’s organ. Love you!

Jon, yes great organ and I am still frustrated with the ‘no heat’ thing. Thanks for such a great attitude!
Liz, well, that is a little bit grown out from when I first got it cut to come here, knowing I wouldn’t be able to get it cut for a really long time. Same cut, but better and shorter. It is considerably longer now since I’m basically chicken to get it cut here. :(

Great picture–how cool is it to be involved in the great groups in Beijing. I’m jealous. Also, the organ reminds me of the past three weeks in our ward that I spent subbing as the organist. I miss playing the organ more often…
